Emergency roadworks extended for Thames Water to carry out repairs in Theale
An emergency road closure has been extended for two days.
Thames Water has been carrying out emergency repairs along The Green, Theale, since Tuesday (January 14), as reported by newburytoday last week.
The closure, due to be lifted today (Monday), will now remain in place until Wednesday (January 22).
Although the issue on site has been fixed, the water company now needs to conduct a survey to ensure there are no further voids under the carriageway before it is opened to traffic.
It had started to add a new sewer connection in the road earlier this month when it discovered that groundwater had washed subsoil into the manhole it was working on, causing a ‘void’ underneath the road.
The emergency closure led to traffic congestion and caused buses to be diverted.
