Double educational success for Tadley primary schools
A second school in the town celebrates glowing Ofsted
A SECOND Tadley primary school was celebrating this week after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.
The 373-pupil Tadley Community Primary School, situated in The Green, received an overall good marking in the Ofsted report, published on Monday after a two-day inspection earlier this month.
The achievement raises the school one grade above the ‘requires improvement’ marking given by Ofsted inspectors after the last inspection in February 2014.
The latest report gives good markings for the effectiveness and leadership and management at the school, under the leadership of headteacher Matthew Rixson for the last two years.
Inspectors said he had set “very high expectations” of staff and pupils.
Mr Rixson said he was delighted with the report and added: “I’m really proud of the hard work of the children, staff and governors since I arrived at the school.
“It is great that the inspectors recognised the many improvements that have been made.”
Also marked good were the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, outcomes for pupils and early years provision.
Inspectors also found that the vast majority of pupils liked attending school and said they felt safe and enjoyed their learning.
Pupils showed a great deal of respect for others and worked hard in most lessons, while playing well together.
The school’s senior leaders had an accurate understanding of how well the school was performing and what it needs to do to improve.
The school’s curriculum proved engaging for pupils, while providing a secure framework to practise and build their skills in reading, writing and mathematics, with raised expectations for their progress apparent in their work.
In order to be an outstanding school, the proportion of outstanding teaching needed to increase, with further development of communications with parents, and the role of some members of the leadership team.
The majority of parents spoke positively of the school and would recommend it to other parents.
Inspectors analysed 80 responses to an online parental questionnaire.
Jan Draper, chairwoman of governors, said: “We are pleased with the outcome of the inspection and we are determined to keep up the hard work in our journey towards becoming an outstanding school.
“We will continue to do all we can to make the school the best it can be for all our children.”
As reported in the May 12 edition of the NWN, Burnham Copse, in Tadley was awarded a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted inspectors, which also raised the school above a ‘requires improvement’ marking given in the previous report in December 2013.
