Crowds enjoy day out at Brightwalton Fete

This year’s Brightwalton Fete drew crowds from the village and further afield on Sunday, April 30.

Guests were treated to a barbecue, morris dancing, a dog show and performances by the Peasemore Ukele Group and Wantage Silver Band, from 1-4pm at the Village Hall Field.

Also on offer were a variety of crafts and produce stalls from local traders, not forgetting Brightwalton Primary School’s display showcasing their maypole dancing to keen spectators.

“It went really well,” said organiser and village hall committee member, Anna Britnor-Guest.

“We had good feedback and everyone was happy. I think it brings out the best in the village. We had people volunteering to help run stalls and turning up to enjoy themselves.”

The fete is a longstanding tradition, taking place almost every May Bank Holiday Sunday since the 1970s. It provides an excellent occasion for families, friends and neighbours to meet.

Entry is free but any proceeds from inside go towards supporting and funding the Village Hall, an integral community hub for the village.

The hall hosts nursery groups, private bookings and most recently, a new youth club supported by Berkshire Youth.

Details on next year’s fete will follow in due course.
