Councillors praise Thatcham litter pickers and provide further funding
Town councillors have approved public liability insurance funding for Thatcham Litter Pickers.
The council said it would be providing £150 to assist the charity in its work.
Jeremy Cottom, (Lib Dem, Thatcham North East) said: “They do a fantastic job in litter collection.”
The funding has been requested to be an annual payment so that the charity can continue to run in a “safe” and “responsible” way.
Mr Cottom said: “It just to cover them as a charitable support.”
Thatcham town council services manager Mike Aslin said: “Anything we can do to support these people.
“They are very active on Facebook.
“We should be helping them through.”
Organiser Kate Dempsie said: “Thanks to the town council we now have enough pickers and bag hoops for everyone who turns up.”
She added: “Thatcham Litter Pickers meet once a month on the last weekend of the month and we go to a different area for each litter pick.
“We have about 30 volunteers ranging in age from five to 80.
“Everyone is welcome.”
The next litter pick is on October 31 from 10 till 11,with attendees meeting at the Henwick car park.
