Councillor Nigel Foot invested as Newbury deputy mayor
Newbury Town Council has invested councillor Nigel Foot (Lib Dem, West Fields) as the town’s deputy mayor.
Mr Foot was elected deputy mayor of Newbury at the annual meeting of the town council, held at the Corn Exchange, on May 15 – however, he was unable to attend after testing positive for coronavirus.
At a meeting of the full council last Monday, Newbury mayor Gary Norman invested Mr Foot with the deputy mayor’s badge of office, and the council received the deputy mayor’s declaration of office for the post.
The role of the deputy mayor is to support the mayor at community engagements and meetings throughout the municipal year, and to provide cover when the mayor may be unavailable.
Upon receiving his badge of office, Mr Foot said: “It is a very great honour to be voted deputy mayor of Newbury.
“I am really looking forward to assisting the mayor in celebrating the amazing events, achievements and activities of our residents.
“I can’t wait to get started.”
Mr Foot is supported in this role by his deputy mayoress, town councillor Sarah Slack.
