Kingsclere Community Library receives generous £4k donation from Greenham Trust to help with running costs

The Kingsclere Community Library has received a generous £4,000 donation from the Greenham Trust to help with running costs.

The volunteer-run independent public library has an annual budget of over £10,000, with basic running costs including electricity, Wi-Fi and rent costing just over £8,000 per year.

The Greenham Trust has donated half of this amount, and additionally, has offered to match £1 for each £1 donated over the next six months through The Good Exchange fundraising platform.

Kingsclere Community Library has currently raised £5,636 of its £8,389 target.

The library’s chair of trustees Nicki Lee said: “Public libraries are really struggling.

“We serve the people of Kingsclere and all the surrounding villages, and do not receive any government funding.

“The volunteers are determined to stay open, but we can only do so with community support.

“We are so grateful to the Greenham Trust for their donations.”

Ms Lee went on to say that a library in Kingsclere is “essential for inclusion” as those who want to have access to library facilities would need a car or might struggle with the journey on public transport if they had to travel to Tadley, Newbury or Basingstoke.
