St Mary’s Church, Thatcham, stringing together funds for restoration of organ

A Church in Thatcham is hosting an organ recital to raise funds for the restoration of the organ itself.

St Mary’s Church, on Church Gate is inviting people to see their almost original 1866 Gray & Davison Organ.

Organist Tim Cooke will play the instrument at the event next week.

Admission is free but there will be a retiring collection for the organ restoration project.

The instrument has been untouched for many years and is a rare example of its kind.

Parts of the organ are now not working, though the Church says Mr Cooke manages to make a great sound.

St Mary’s wants to restore it to its former glory.

The event will fall on Saturday, July 15 at 3pm.
