Thatcham Church to hold bereavement sessions tackling loss and isolation
Churches across the local area have been working together to tackle loss and isolation in short bereavement courses.
Thatcham Baptist Church is holding six sessions, for people of all ages, faiths and backgrounds, to help rid them of loneliness and grief.
Rev David Taylor thought the courses would benefit the community after “noticing people not being able to hug after funerals," have wakes or have receptions.
He said: “I just noticed how tough lockdown made the whole experience of bereavement.
“It’s just to try to help people in Thatcham who will be sitting at home having a really hard time with their grieving because they are so isolated.”
He added: "With the large number of people who have experienced bereavement during very difficult circumstances during the pandemic, I am convinced that there are a lot of people out there who would really benefit from doing this course."
When the course ran last Autumn, Rev Taylor found it went "really well" with around 20 people attending regularly.
He said: "One of the participants even wrote a letter to the Newbury Weekly News to commend it.
"So, we’re running it again this Spring, and are hoping for even more people this time."
The sessions start on Wednesday, March 2 at 7.30pm. To book call 07922 170503 or contact david@thatchambaptist.org.uk
