Newbury church open for daily prayer for Ukraine
West Berkshire residents are being invited to pray for the people of Ukraine and those helping them.
St Nicolas Church in Newbury will be open for prayer every weekday lunchtime between 12.30pm and 1.30pm from now until Easter.
There will be prayer cards and other resources available for people to pray quietly on their own.
At 1pm, there will be prayers led by a different church minister each day.
The initiative is being run on behalf of all the churches in Newbury, as part of Christians Together in the Newbury Area (CTNA).
The rector of St Nic’s Church, the Rev Will Hunter Smart, said: “There has been an outpouring of compassion and action in response to the war in Ukraine.
“Many people have donated towards relief efforts or signed up to help welcome refugees.
“In addition to this fantastic response, we are inviting anyone to join us as we pray for all those caught up in this terrible conflict, and to pray for peace.
“People can join us for as long or as little time as they are able to.”
Ste Bate, Chair of CTNA, added: “All of us have looked on with shock, horror and compassion at what is happening in Ukraine.
“Here is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to pray for God’s intervention in this heart-breaking situation.”
