Newbury's Save the Children charity shop will close after Christmas
A charity shop in Newbury town centre will be closing after Christmas.
Save the Children, located at 33 Cheap Street, will be permanently closing its doors following the festive period.
It was speculated that the charitable organisation could not afford the building’s rent anymore, but Save the Children UK’s director of retail and communities Ian Matthews stated that this was not the case.
He said: “We can confirm that Save the Children in Newbury will trade until Christmas after which it will be closing its doors.
“It has been a difficult decision to shut the shop and whilst it is not because the organisation can no longer afford the rent, it’s no secret that across the sector we face a constantly changing, and increasingly challenging retail landscape.
“At Save the Children the priority has always been to make sure we are raising as much money as possible so that we can make a difference to children’s futures both in the UK and all over the world.
“Our shops play an important part in this which means we are constantly reviewing our portfolio to make sure that every store is contributing towards this end goal.
“We recognise the enormous contribution our wonderful volunteers in Newbury have made to Save the Children.
“The team there have shown enormous passion and commitment to our cause, and we would like to thank every one of them for everything that they have done over the years.”
The Newbury store is no longer accepting donations and it will have its final day of trading on Friday, December 23.
