Newtown Road Cemetery in Newbury re-opens following discovery of collapsed grave




Newbury’s largest cemetery has reopened three weeks after a collapsed grave was discovered.

Newtown Road Cemetery closed for safety concerns after a grave collapsed into an underground brick vault on the weekend of February 22.

Announcing the re-opening on social media today (Wednesday), Newbury Town Council said: “We’re pleased to announce that Newtown Road Cemetery is now open to the public again following the successful completion of safety work on a collapsed grave.

“Thank you for your patience while we ensured the area was made safe.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and look forward to welcoming visitors back to this historic site which is open daily from 10am to 3pm.”
