Boys and Girls Brigades celebrate their successes
James Cooper and George Goddard have completed their Queen’s Badge, the highest award that anyone can gain in the Boys’ Brigade, while Hannah Green qualified for her Girls’ Brigade “Brigader Brooch”.
All three have taken part in various activities and tasks over the last 18 months to two years to gain their awards, including programmes of voluntary work both within the brigades themselves and out in the local community, learning new life skills and doing a physical activity element.
They also had to attend various residential leadership training courses to gain their badges.
Officers of 1st Newbury Boys’ Brigade were also presented with long service awards for the work they have undertaken within the local Company over the years – Company Captain Roger Vogel and Lieutenants Edwin Vogel and Shaun Parker were all awarded their silver long service awards, while Warrant Officer Sarah Hooper was awarded her bronze long service award.
All the presentations were made on the night by deputy mayor of Newbury, Joan Day, who congratulated the young people on all their hard work in gaining their awards and also thanked the leaders of both the Boys’ Brigade and the Girls’ Brigade for all their continued work.
