Newbury Phoenix Rotary Club’s boules back for business blast at Market Place
Newbury Market Place saw 16 teams face off for in yet another exciting boules tournament at the weekend.
The annual event, held on Sunday, June 25, raised just over £4,100 for local charities Time to Talk, Riding for the Disabled, Home Start-West Berkshire, and New Life.
Speaking about the event, Alison Stanton, of Newbury Phoenix Rotary, said: “In all the years this has been running, that’s the most that’s been raised, so we are really pleased.”
This year’s edition saw A-Plan emerge victorious — winning a £400 three-hour virtual motor sports experience at Forrest Motorsport in Weavers Walk — and Newbury Town Council as the runners up for the second year in a row.
The event is run by Newbury Phoenix Rotary Club, in conjunction with Newbury Rotary Club, and is endorsed by Newbury Town Council and Newbury Business Improvement District (BID).
The grand final was followed by a trophy presentation to the winning team by Southern Maintenance Solutions UK Ltd and presentation awards to the Nearest the Jack winners (adults and children) and the winner of the Guess the Name of the Bear competition.
Harry Tooze, from Woolton Hill, was the Nearest the Jack winner.
Prizes were kindly donated by Pistonlab Raceroom, Newbury Phoenix Rotary Club and powered by Forrest Motorsport.
The organisers also thanked Kennet Radio, Chris Pearce Renovations and Garry Poulson.
Preparations for next year’s event will begin in January.
