Latest vinyl from Big Boss Man released in time for Modstock
Big Boss Man’s new vinyl single Das Freak is to be released on Thursday in time for Modstock with 12-track album Bossin’ Around to follow next month. ‘Guaranteed to fill dancefloors’ says BRIAN HARRINGTON
Big Boss Man are one of the best and most successful musical gifts Newbury has given the world. Since 1998 they have been producing great jazz, funk, soul and Latin bongo-hammond fuzz.
As well as playing hundreds of concerts and festivals across the UK, Europe and beyond, their music has been featured in numerous films and TV programmes, including Strictly Come Dancing and The Mighty Boosh.
Their latest 7" vinyl single Das Freak will be released on February 29, timed to coincide with their appearance at Modstock (60 years of Mod) in London.
It will be followed by a 12 track album Bossin' Around in March. The album also includes a version of Das Freak.
Big Boss Man play "proper" music, meaning real people on real instruments which sounds as good live as it does on record. Multi-instrumentalist Nasser Bouzida is on keyboards, bongos and percussion, Trevor Harding on guitar, Badger Burgess on bass and Desmond Rogers on drums are joined by guests musicians to provide brass and woodwind on some tracks.
This is a limited edition release and guaranteed to become a collector's item.
The album opens with a ticking clock leading in to Senor Claypole with a freaking guitar which settles in to a great 1960s inspired groove.
There are so many world influences here Cuban Heel Blues has a great Latin-American watermelon man style feel while Hapless Jack has an Egyptian reggae vibe.
The final track 0069 has heaps of echo and a great reggae funk sound.
This is a predominantly instrumental album which retains the 60s soundtrack style of the band's previous releases and is guaranteed to fill dance floors everywhere.
Great stuff.
