Berkshire charitable start-up supporting people affected by cancer shortlisted in Thames Valley Business & Community Awards
A thoughtful Berkshire initiative has been shortlisted for Best New Start-Up of the Year at the Thames Valley Business & Community Awards.
Bags of Hope, based in Newbury and Maidenhead, has been commended for providing free, practical bags for anyone undergoing cancer treatment — after opening only five months ago.
Reacting to the recognition, co-founder Lindsey Lucas said: “Being shortlisted for this award is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our team of volunteers, partners and the generosity of our supporters.”
“We are dedicated to making a positive impact to the lives of those affected by cancer,” added fellow co-founder Carol Anne Doyle.
She continued: “This recognition confirms our vision and inspires us to pursue ambitious growth plans for the future.
“Having had my own cancer journey, I know how important extra support can be.
“With one person in the UK diagnosed with cancer every two minutes, the need continues to grow by the day.”
Each bag is sustainably-made made using donated fabric and sewn by a team of volunteer sewists.
Anyone currently undergoing treatment, regardless of the type of cancer, is eligible to receive a free bag.
