Thames Valley Police hosts successful open day at force training centre in Sulhamstead
Thames Valley Police hosted a successful event when it opened its doors to the public for the first time since 2018, writes Imogen Uwins.
The force welcomed visitors to enjoy a behind the scenes glimpse at what they do on a day to day basis, on Saturday (September 2), at its training centre in Sulhamstead.
As well as the beautiful weather, 4,135 members of the public were greeted by puppy recruits and the Thames Valley Police Vocal volunteer choir group.
While the dog and mounted sections were a firm favourite, there were over fifty exhibitors to see and talk to, providing career advice and opportunities for everyone.
The Regional Fire & Rescue teams, forensics, the National Police Air Service (NPAS) were all present, as well as a vintage car display and a Tactical Cycle Team demonstration.
There were fascinating talks, including on women in policing and crime scene investigation, providing information for all ages and interests.
As well as talks, the classrooms provided more interactive learning, with VR headsets allowing visitors to experience drone fly-through footage.
The TVP sponsors provided an array of prizes for a raffle, with proceeds going towards the force’s museum.
The day also helped raise funds for charities such as Pensions 4 Paws.
