Awards for West Berks blood donors

Six donors from Newbury and Thatcham joined 39 others from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Middlesex and Wiltshire who were recognised at a ceremony held by NHS Blood and Transplant earlier in December.
The donors have all achieved either 75 or 100 life saving donations.
They are Pamela Norman (75 donations award), Christopher Goldsmith (100 donations award), Graham Walder (75 donations award), Ian Quelch (75 donations award), Sarah Garrett (75 donations award) and Roger Hunt (75 donations award).
Donors were thanked for their generosity and presented with crystal awards by guest speaker Simon Cooper.
Mr Cooper, who has Cystic Fibrosis, received blood during a liver transplant and received blood, platelets and plasma during a double lung transplant.
Donor relations manager at NHS Blood and Transplant, Dominic Sutherland, said: “We would like to thank these donors for their commitment and dedication.
“They are an inspiration to us all and we hope that others will follow in their footsteps.
“If these donors have inspired you, please register to donate now, as we always need new donors. It is such a simple act, but can make a huge difference to someone in need.”
Out of the four per cent of the eligible population who give blood, only three per cent ever manage to reach 75 donations and just one per cent reach 100.
