Autism charity Prior’s Court starts fundraising appeal to raise money for vital specialist equipment

A Hermitage autism charity has launched a new fundraising appeal to buy specialist equipment.

The young autistic people who live and learn at Prior’s Court need the equipment to lead fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

But local authority funding only stretches so far.

So, the charity’s experts have compiled a list of relatively small expense items that will have a huge benefit for the young people they support every day with the Big Little Things appeal.

Items such as wobble stools, pick plates, adapted cutlery and rocker chairs will help aid anxieties, provide sensory benefits and help pupils to regulate.

The charity’s director of learning Sue Piper said: “We understand the little things are actually the big things for an autistic young person, and we celebrate them as major milestones.

“Supporters can confidently state that their donation to this appeal is providing a real, tangible difference.

“And the best part is that difference made is not a one-off. For example, a rocker stool allowing a young person to stay alert and keep attention for longer benefits their classroom learning.”
