Abnormal load causing long delays

West Berkshire motorists are today (Thursday) experiencing lengthy traffic delays

WEST Berkshire motorists are experiencing even longer tailbacks than normal on local roads today (Thursday) due to the transportation of a large load.

A large silo from the old Courage brewery in Reading is being transported to Tot Hill today by Teahan Convoi Service, escorted by police and causing long delays on many local roads.

The load will then be transported to Southampton Docks tomorrow (Friday).

However, hundreds of motorists in the Thatcham area have been stuck in long delays on the A4 today as a result of the transportation, which at 2.30 saw the lorry carrying the silo become stuck opposite The Swan pub. Support vehicles and crew had to remove large branches of overhanging trees in order to free the vehicle while bemused motorists watched on.

The transportation of similar loads is set to be repeated on five more occasions in the next month.
