5 factors to consider when buying new tyres
If your tyres are getting a bit threadbare and need to be replaced, it can be hard to find the right tyres for your vehicle, especially if this is the first time you are buying tyres – or even if it has been so long that you have forgotten who you bought the last set from.
Here are five factors to get right when buying new car tyres.
The right size
Always buy the right size tyre for your vehicle. You might think that getting tyres an inch or two bigger will make your car look cooler, increase the clearance or give it some other advantage, but in fact, you can do your vehicle a lot of harm by doing this.
As well as physically damaging your car, you will also interfere with the speedometer and odometer of your car, so you will not be able to properly regulate your speed, your servicing times will be disrupted, and delicate and sophisticated gadgets like the anti-lock brakes or stability systems – or indeed any automatic monitoring processes – will be thrown out of whack.
The right profile
The profile of a tyre is the height of the sidewall, from ground to hubcap. Low-profile tyres are considered cool by some drivers, but it is a fact that a profile of 50mm or higher makes for a much more comfortable ride for you and your passengers.
Low profile tyres can be more prone to damage due to the smaller size, but they can improve your vehicle's steering performance.
You will have to decide which profile best suit your needs and preferences.
The right fitter
It doesn't matter how cheap or expensive your tyres are if they are badly fitted. Careful, precise fitting can make an enormous difference to your ride and the durability of the tyres.
There are many local tyre fitters across the UK and you can decide on which one to choose based on your driving patterns, budget and requirements.
Yorkshire is a hub of tyre garages and if you are considering buying tyres in Normanton – book online with Reg Greenwood for local fitting and no hidden costs.
They have been around in the business since 1981 and they have a loyal customer base and a team of professionals to assist you.
The right price
Obviously, you want the best tyres for your vehicle; tyres that will give you a smooth ride, look good and last a long time in great condition – but equally obviously, you do not want to pay any more than you absolutely have to for those tyres. Shop around to find your perfect tyre at the right price for you.
The right pair
Tyres should always be bought in pairs at a minimum.
Ideally replacing all four tyres at the same time is the best practice advice, but this is not always possible. This is to ensure that each axle has the same type of tyre on it.
Tyre pairs can be different between the back and front without any issue, but side to side tyre pairs should always be purchased together.
