Welcome to this week’s Dog of the Week.

Dogs Trust Newbury has a number of dogs at its Hamstead Marshall base who need a new home.

And so every Sunday we will continue to shine a spotlight on one of them to try to help spread the word.

Nationwide, the charity currently has 789 dogs that are looking for a family to join.

You can find out more about adopting a dog by visiting the charity’s website.

Today we have a loving lady to introduce you too.

Tara is a five-year-old German Shepherd, who was transferred to Newbury from Dogs Trust's transfer centre in Penrith.

She is now looking for a home that can offer her a lot of kindness and love.

"Tara loves to be cuddled and to be played with," said those looking after her at the Newbury centre.

"She loves her toys and her treats - as her waistline suggests - but don’t let her size fool you; she is incredibly active and loves to walk and jump around.

"She would love an active home that can continue her training around other dogs."

And as that suggests, Tara isn't the biggest fan of other dogs and will need her home to be happy to continue working on her reactivity towards them.

Tara has been known to mouth her handlers when frustrated and when playing, because of this and her tendency to jump up, Dogs Trust said it thinks she would be better suited to living with children who are aged 11 or over.
