Expect 60 panels and more than 250 printed images in return of Hungerford Camera Club show

AFTER a five year absence, Hungerford Camera Club’s exhibition is back in the Hungerford Town Hall.

It will run on Saturday, September 21 (10am to 5pm) and Sunday 22 (10am to 4pm).

Members will be exhibiting their prints in all styles – portraits, landscapes, wildlife and even some arty ones.

There will be prints and cards to purchase as well as teas, coffees and home-made cake for free (donations accepted).

Viewers can choose their favourite print with the winning photographer awarded a trophy.

Entrance £2 for adults, children under 12, free.

Hungerford Camera Club was founded in 1986 when photography was all about film. Digital cameras and mobile phone images were a thing of the future with the first commercial digital camera being available two years later.

Eventually things changed with digital cameras being the norm and mobile phones producing some decent images. The club even held its first mobile phone competition earlier in the year with images taken on mobile phones and any editing done on the phones as well.

The club is part of the SCPF (Southern Counties Photographic Federation) and enters into PDI and print leagues against other clubs within the federation with clubs taking it in turn to host a round of the competition where all the images for all the clubs in that tier are judged.

There are also internal competitions and practical nights where, on occasion, amazing pictures are made using oil, milk and food colourings – wild images of the cosmos maybe.

“We enjoy talks by guest speakers both live at the meeting venue or, from further afield via Zoom - lockdown did open up a world of opportunities,” says club member Julie.

“We can take advantage of long summer nights to venture outside capturing images of the local area, even a scavenger hunt in Hungerford where a few local dogs enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame! Likewise, when the days are shorter, we get to experiment with light painting and other fun ways to light up a scene.

“There are no divisions nor tiers in the club – everyone is able to enter all the competitions we run and be as involved as much as they want to.

“We held our last exhibition at the town hall in Hungerford in 2019. That seems like a very long time ago! We did run an online exhibition in 2020 but it wasn’t the same – not the excitement of of friends and families as well as the wider community being able to see our work.

“This is a time to exhibit the sort of images that we individually like producing – not aimed towards a competition nor judges, although there is some judging at the exhibition the night before it starts, with a ceremony at the end of the weekend.”

There will be 60 panels and more than 250 printed images for people to see. The club like the community to be involved so there’s a trophy for the winner of the public vote (visitors vote for their favourite image over the two days).

Some prints are for sale as well as greeting cards made by the members of the club.

There will also be a café set up with home made cakes, teas and coffees.

“The 2024 exhibition is likely going to be a great weekend of fun and excitement with some really good photos on display,” adds Julie.

If the club sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, contact them via the website or have a chat to one of the members at the exhibition.
