Greenham Control Tower closed today
Greenham Control Tower and Café are closed today (Friday, April 8), due to what the organisation says are 'circumstances beyond our control'. They apologise for any inconvenience.
There will be no access to the current exhibition of paintings and ceramic Colour in Common which closes on Sunday - see @newburytoday review here https://www.newburytoday.co.uk/lifestyle/see-colour-in-common-at-greenham-9247756/
The normal opening hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10.30am-3pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm. However times can change subject to volunteer availability.
It will be closed on Easter Sunday.
Greenham Control Tower opened its doors in Summer 2018 as a visitor centre and community hub, with the aim to preserve and share the historical legacy of one of the few remaining airfield buildings. It now shares the story of Greenham Common whilst supporting and cooperating with local organisations for the benefit of the whole community.
The next exhibition – To The Heavens: An Exhibition of Paintings and Memorabilia by Jane Oldfield opens on April 16 and runs to June 26.
The artist, Jane Oldfield, wants us to consider the sky above. She paints flying creatures of the Common, including the feisty Dartford Warbler, and celebrates her uncle, a photo-reconnaissance Spitfire pilot in the Second World War. Learning to fly a glider has also inspired her sky paintings and mobiles of flying people.
To the Heavens will encourage visitors to be more conscious of what is happening to our skies.
