Watch what Shaw House Tudor gardens, now open, look like after revamp - but they will be better in the summer

The Tudor Garden at Shaw House is now complete.

The project, led by West Berkshire Council’s community services, was made possible through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

It’s been designed by horticulturist and designer Andrea Fearon, from Ivy Hill Garden Design.

The plants are all true to a Tudor period garden and the style in which they have been planted offers a contemporary interpretation; with ornamentals, herbs and vegetables being mixed in the borders rather than separated into dedicated spaces.

Nigel Foot (Lib Dem, Newbury Clay Hill), West Berkshire’s executive member for culture, leisure, sport and countryside, said: “The Tudor Garden project at Shaw House has been an exciting initiative.

“It was made possible through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund grant but has come to life through the imagination and careful planning from our community services officers in collaboration with Shaw House and a wonderful team of volunteers.

“We are delighted to see the garden completed now and for it to provide such an enhancement to the house.

“We would like to give special thanks to our wonderful volunteers, who not only helped to bring the project to life with the meticulous planting, but who will also be helping to maintain the garden as part of our community garden sessions.”

The garden is now open for everyone to enjoy, but as the planting took place during the winter months, visitors are encouraged to return during the summer months to see the garden in full bloom.

Shaw House is open to the public every weekend from 11am to 4pm until the end of September, and Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm during school holidays.
