Sell-out crowd for first Good Vibes live gig for Newbury’s under-18 bands

Good Vibes Music Academy recently hosted its first GVMA under 18s Band Night at the Phoenix Resource Centre theatre.

A line-up of four great bands took to the stage and each one of them put on an amazing set in front of a sell-out crowd, says Ben Martin from the academy.

“The night started off with their Band 101 group - who have been working together for just 12 weeks as part of the band course. They put on an eclectic performance with songs ranging from jazz to rock and indie.

“Next up, New Born played a blistering set of rock classics - full of energy, musicianship and great stage personas, highlights were Nirvana & Green Day.

“Then Luke Mcenaneys band kicked into a version of Rage Against the Machine’s Bombtrack and carried through an awesome punk energy. They sounded like a band that not only knew their stuff but had real rock and roll swagger.

“Finally Sphinx capped off the night with a killer set, displaying their great musical skill, crowd interaction and showcasing all the hard work they’ve put in. Needless to say it demanded an encore from the sell out crowd.”

The academy helps young people make music at their Bartholomew Street studio in Newbury town centre as well as in local partner schools.

Their next event will be Live on the Terrace will rock the Newbury Pub on Sunday, April 6 when adult music students of Newbury’s Good Vibes Music Academy will be performing at a free gig from 5pm.

For many of them this will be their first ever live performance.

At Good Vibes Music Academy, they turn passion into real-world experience.

GVMA students will be performing on the terrace at the Newbury Pub. This is a great opportunity for older students - the over-18s - to have a go at playing in a public venue.
