Dog of the Week: The latest dogs looking for their forever homes from Newbury Dogs Trust

Welcome to this week’s Dog of the Week - and what a bumper edition we have for you today.

Dogs Trust Newbury has a number of dogs at its Hamstead Marshall base who need a new home.

And so every Sunday we will continue to shine a spotlight on one of them to try to help spread the word.

Nationwide, the charity currently has 770 dogs that are looking for a family to join.

You can find out more about adopting a dog by visiting the charity’s website.

We’ve had a little break over Easter so today’s Dog of the Week features three very special dogs looking for new homes.

Introducing Bear, Ben and Hector.

Bear is an affectionate seven-year-old German Shepherd Dog who came into the care of the trust after his owner could no longer look after him.

The trust admits that he has arrived at its doors carrying a little extra weight, so he will need to continue to lose this in his new home.

Bear is in search of a loving forever home where he can thrive as an only pet.

“As his energy levels are recovering, his personality is starting to shine through,” the trust said.

“Bear loves a tennis ball and to potter along with his handlers. He enjoys walking with other dogs but would prefer to be the only dog in the home.

“Bear would love a family where he can be involved in things as he is quite nosey and enjoys being in the company of people.

“Underneath all that fur, Bear is the sweetest dog who has a lot of love to give his new family.”

“This adorable pup dreams of a home with a private garden, where he can safely explore, play, and soak up the sun.”

The trust said that it is essential to keep in mind that Bear has some medical requirements that may incur additional costs, but added that they can discuss these details further if your application is shortlisted.

Hector is a “wonderful” 11-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier, who sadly came into the trust’s care after his owner died.

He has been very loved in his previous home and is now looking for a new family to provide him with just as much love.

He has recently gone into a foster home and has made himself at home straight away, finding the best sunbathing spots in the garden!

Hector likes pottering about on walks and has even recently taken a trip to the beach to paddle his paws.

He is looking for a home with a snuggly sofa to call his own and could live with another calm, well established dog and has been used to walking with groups of dogs in his previous home.

Hector is an older gent who does enjoy the quieter life, so we feel as though he would settle better in a home with any children aged 8+ who are calm around older dogs.

Despite Hector's age, he is still very spritely and really enjoys exploring new places on walkies!

“His favourite thing in the world is just having some company and the occasional pat on the chest to let him know he is a good boy,” said the trust.

Ben

Ben is a charming eight-year-old Greyhound who is seeking his retirement home.

He was originally rehomed from the charity when he was in his younger years, but he’s now an older gentleman who enjoys the finer things in life, such as tasty treats, soft comfortable beds and walks in the sunshine.

He is looking for a calm, relaxing home to lounge about in; a nice sofa would be ideal. He loves his treats and despite his age enjoys some fun interactive training to keep his brain active - he is actually very good at it!

Ben previously lived with a young family but found little people too noisy and would prefer a peaceful, quiet environment in an adult only home.

Ben does have some age related arthritis, which is supported by medication.

But the trust said if the medical costs are a concern, “please still reach out – we would love to talk and see how we can support you and Ben together”.

“Sleeping on the sofa, laying in the sunshine and having lazy days is the life he wishes to lead,” said the trust.

“We're excited to find the perfect, loving home for him!”
