Dog of the Week: The latest dogs looking for their forever homes from Newbury Dogs Trust
Welcome to this week’s Dog of the Week.
Dogs Trust Newbury has a number of dogs at its Hamstead Marshall base who need a new home.
And so every Sunday we will continue to shine a spotlight on one of them to try to help spread the word.
Nationwide, the charity currently has 672 dogs that are looking for a family to join.
You can find out more about adopting a dog by visiting the charity’s website.
Today we have a little princess to introduce you to.
Pixie is a four-year-old Chihuahua, who likes to be treated like a princess but can still hold her own.
Dogs Trust think she’s a bit like Princess Fiona, from Shrek – although you probably won't have to defeat a fire-breathing dragon to win her over.
Soft, meaty treats and squeezy cheese will definitely help win her heart.
“Once Pixie gets to know you, she loves cuddles and will become your tiny shadow,” the trust said.
“She is worried about formal and close handling [these types of handling are typically used in a veterinary environment] and strangers if they approach.
“Pixie also isn't a huge fan of other dogs and can be vocal about her feelings towards them.”
For this reason Pixie is looking for an adult-only home that has a private garden and she will also need to be the only dog in the household.
Pixie would not be suited to a busy household as she struggles to cope with too much change and busy environments, the trust added.
She does have an ongoing medical issue with her back legs and her adopters will need to manage and monitor this. She has bilateral luxating patellas that do not currently require surgery or any medication.
