Thatcham’s history goes back more than 10,000 years
A NEW exhibition Focus on Thatcham opened last week at West Berkshire Museum.
‘Focus On’ is a series of exhibitions at the museum that celebrates the heritage, community and landscape of our local parishes.
This exhibition explores Thatcham’s history through objects from the museum collection and from the local community.
It features Thatcham, the town, which was until recently credited as being the longest continually inhabited settlement in Britain.
Thatcham’s history goes back more than 10,000 years, with evidence for prehistoric man living in the area, as well as Romans, Saxons and all periods after.
It showcases finds that represent the area ranging from Stone Age tools to brushes made in the 1900s over two galleries at the museum until September 17, 2023.
Open: Wednesday to Sunday 10am-4pm. Entry free, donations welcome.
