Sex pest regular at the Bacon Arms in Newbury barred for exposing himself to woman
A PUB regular was barred after exposing himself to a woman and indecently propositioning her.
The shocking scenes happened in a Newbury town centre bar, Reading magistrates heard on Tuesday, April 1.
In the dock was 63-year-old Thomas Davis, of Speenhamland Court, Newbury.
Elona Panxha, prosecuting, said Davis was a regular customer in the Bacon Arms, Oxford Street, and had been drinking heavily on the night in question.
He remarked to one woman: “Your t*** are looking good in that top.”
Ms Panxha added: “She felt extremely uncomfortable and moved away.”
But, around 50 minutes later, she went on, “he took his genitals from his trousers and thrusted towards her”.
Davis was committing a sex act while telling the woman: “I want to have my way with you,” the court heard.
He then began to explain to his victim, in extremely explicit terms, what he wanted to do to her, said Ms Panxha.
Horrified customers called police and Davis was arrested.
He subsequently denied intentionally exposing his genitals, intending that someone would see them and be caused alarm or distress, on Thursday, July 18 last year.
He also denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on the same occasion.
A trial was scheduled – but Davis didn’t turn up and he was convicted in his absence.
Ms Panxha concluded: “This is a very serious offence; the defendant took this matter to trial, denying he had conducted himself in that manner.
Mark Phillips, defending, said his client still denied he had been masturbating but conceded “he has no recollection of the incident” because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed.
He added: “He is very, very embarrassed.
“After his arrest he self harmed.
“He made severe cuts to his wrist and arms resulting in tendon damage requiring 60 stitches.”
Mr Phillips went on: “He has said: ‘I’m disgusted with myself’ and he is extremely remorseful.”
Davis, a grounds worker, has unsurprisingly been barred from the pub that was his ‘local’, the court heard.
Magistrates made him subject to a two-year community order with a requirement that he complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
In addition, Davis was ordered to pay £720 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £114.
Next, he was required to undergo mental health treatment and to pay his victim £500 in compensation.
Finally, Davis was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
