Former England star signs for Crusaders
Shorey in squad for trip to Truro
HUNGERFORD TOWN have signed former England full back Nicky Shorey and he will join the squad for Tuesday’s trip to Truro City.
Shorey was with Colchester United, but spent much of his league career with Reading, making more than 280 appearances for Royals.
His career began at Leyton Orient, who sold him to Reading in 2001, later moving to Aston Villa and then to West Bromwich Albion for £1.3 million.
He represented England in matches against Brazil and Germany in 2007 and in recent seasons has had stints at Fulham and Portsmouth.
Now 35, Shorey trained with Hungerford this week and signed on Thursday night, although too late to feature in Saturday’s game at Margate.
“He’s not here for money,” said manager Bobby Wilkinson. “He’s coming here to play and to help me out.
“He’s a great lad and still a great player. The paperwork is still going through, but he will join us next week for the game at Truro.”
