Co-op in Essex Street in Wash Common in Newbury raided overnight




A convenience store in Newbury was raided overnight.

Thieves targeted the Co-op shop on Essex Street in Wash Common in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

This is the fourth time the store has been raided in recent years.

It was targeted twice in 2019 and once in 2023.

Co-op opened in 2019 after Budgens, which was the previous tenant at the 4 Monument Close retail unit, closed in September of that year.

The shop is temporarily closed following the raid.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “Thames Valley Police was called to a business burglary in Monument Close in Essex Street, Newbury at around 1.58am today.

“A Co-operative store had been broken into and burgled.

“Officers attended the scene and have launched an investigation.

“Anyone with information or footage on this incident should call 101 or make an online report via our website, quoting crime reference number 43250095365”
