Thatcham man arrested after crash outside pub




Witnesses sought to suspected drunken crash

A THATCHAM man has been arrested following a crash near a West Berkshire pub.

The arrest follows a white Volkswagen Caddy colliding with a bollard before stopping on the grass verge in the car park of the Berkshire Arms at Midgham.

The driver then fled the scene.

The crash occurred at 10.20pm on Saturday, January 9.

Investigating Officer, PC Matt Midwinter, based at Newbury police station, said: "This incident happened outside a pub, and we believe that a number of people standing outside may have witnessed it.

"We would ask anyone with information to come forward and call 101 quoting reference 43160008223."

A 26-year-old man from Thatcham has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and taking a vehicle without consent.

He has been released on police bail until February, 10.
