David and Marion Canning, who started the competition nearly 30 years ago, said this year has been one of the best yet.

With the entry costs, added to sales of last year’s calendars and donations from Bucklebury man Terry Allwood who sells plants, Mr and Mrs Canning raised almost £400 for Cats Protection.

They presented a cheque for £365 to the cat welfare charity at the show – as some people made their donations directly to the charity.

Mr and Mrs Canning, ex-wedding photographers in Tadley and Aldermaston, began the competition nearly 30 years ago.

They started by picking up the three best photos people brought to the fair and awarded prizes.

But over time, the project grew into what is has become today.
